RVTC donated agricultural tools to Christian Joseph Haihambo Combined School in Kasote’s Kavango West on 17 February 2023. The school approached RVTC back 2022 to ask for assistance in regard to agricultural tools. The school is more on theory learning as it has no tools to convert their theory into practical.
The items donated includes 1x wheelbarrow, 2x digging forks, 2x trowels, 4 pairs of gloves to mention but a few. The total cost of the items mounted to not more than N$4000.00. The idea of donating items is to help Namibia with food security. Kornelius Lukas Centre Manager of RVTC stated during the handing over of the items that the agriculture sector should be strengthened from the grassroots level (meaning from primary school level). “We have to take care of our food security. We have plenty water and fertile soil; why should we fail to produce our own food,” said Lukas. He also stated that gone are the days when Namibia has to rely on supply of food from other countries.
The Centre informed the gathering that it introduced courses in agriculture and open for both full time and RPL. The aim is to equip every Namibian with agricultural skills in order to reduce hunger within our community. “This small donation we are doing now is a steppingstone to those in the field; said Lukas. Accepting the donation was the School Principal Mr. Kavanga who was so happy for the items. “We are so delighted that we are given these tools, we are going to take good care of them. We will use them accordingly and as of today, our mindsets should change and think of agriculture, think of food security” added Kavanga.
This donation followed after the Centre repaired 9x kinder garden chairs belonging to Thikusho Pre Private School in Rundu’s Kehemu settlement at no cost. The Centre is trying to assist where possible with its social responsibility division.
