RVTC donates a Majesty Chair to the newly coroneted Queen (Hompa)

Residing in the Sambyu Traditional Authority, RVTC joined the nation in celebrating the coronation of the new Queen of the Sambyu Traditional Authority.

Hompa Sophia Mundjembwe Kanyetu was coroneted on Saturday the 08th of July 2023 at the Sambyu Traditional Head Quarter in Kavango East Region. RVTC Centre Manager handed over a Queen’s Majesty Chair which was donated by the Centre as its social responsibilities to the community. Centre Manager Kornelius Lukas was joined by the Governor of Kavango East region Honorable Bonafatius Wakudumo in handing over the majesty chair.

The donation attracted a lot of attention due to the way it was manufactured. “This chair was made by RVTC from our joinery workshop as a gift to you Her Majesty the Queen (Hompa) of the Sambyu Traditional Authority” said Lukas. He thanked the RVTC staff members on their social media platform for the job well done in support of making the chair.


 
Ndama Combined School invites RVTC

Ndama Combined School hosted a successful career day on 12 May 2023. The invitation was extended to RVTC to participate in the career guidance to the learners of Ndama Combined School. Alba Chipamba Mwendere Nursing school and NUST were also invited to take part.

Approximately 265 learners attended the career guidance which was aimed at giving directions to grade 10 and 11 learners. RVTC gave a presentation on various courses/trades its offering. Admission requirements were also given to the learners who wanted to know more about the who qualifies. Both learners and teachers were happy to hear that RVTC has been offering training in agriculture. Horticulture got the attention of the majority as food security has become the talk of the nation.

More questions were asked on various trades in regards to job security. RVTC Liaison Officer Milton Mwiya informed the learners that Vocational Education should be a choice not an option. “Let’s not opt for TVET just because you didn’t qualify to other institutions, it should be a choice” added Mwiya. He further said institutions of higher learning are not competing against each other but complement each other. “We need bricklayers to build our hospitals and other infrastructures, mechanic to maintain our cars and so on” Mwiya continued.

Rundu VTC has expanded vertically and horizontally on training. The introduction of Agriculture courses was aimed to boost food security in the country. RVTC is open for full time as well as RPL training to all citizens. As a national hub, the Centre encourages more young people from the region to apply for technical training at RVTC.

Minister pays a visit to RVTC

The Minister of Higher Education, Training & Innovation Dr. Itah Kandji–Murangi visited RVTC on 19 April 2023. This was the second visit of high profile personnel RVTC received within a week. The Honorable Minister was received by RVTC Centre Manager with whom they proceeded to meet the Management.

After the Management meeting the Minister addressed the entire RVTC community (staff and trainees) in a fully packed Erick Tjandja hall. She encouraged trainees to work towards the finishing line with no delays. “If your program takes three years to be completed, why should you take four years to complete it? Realize why you are here; you are here because of training. Reach the finishing line” added the Minister.

She further informed the trainees not to be on one direction but rather get basics of other trades to make things easier for them in the technical world. As the world have transformed into digital with Namibia not excluded, she encouraged the trainees to make use of internet in order for them to learn more. The use of natural resources was not omitted in her speech. The green hydrogen which is making headlines in the country were part of her package of the information given to both trainees and staff members.

The Minister acknowledged RVTC being one of the Centre producing the best in the country.


SELF-CATERING KITCHEN UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Rundu Vocational Training Centre has begun the construction of the self-catering kitchen at the Centre’s premise.  A project budgeted for a huge amount has employed 17 former graduates in the trade of Electrical General, Plumbing, Welding, Joinery & Bricklaying. The Bricklayers have started with the ground work as of 24 April 2023.  The ground breaking was officiated by RVTC Centre Manager and Head of Trainee Support.

During the ground breaking, the Head of Trainee Support Bruce Gwala said the project have been delayed to kick off due to other situations. “We have started with this project today and it’s expected to end the second week of June 2023” added Gwala.

As a national hub, RVTC receives applicants for training from all the 14 regions of the country, thus the need for hostel expansion is vital. RVTC hostel currently accommodates 132 trainees. During the COVID19 pandemic, this number reduced due to health protocols inline of fighting the pandemic.

Self-catering kitchen will serve the Centre some money as they currently spend more than N$300 000.00 on meals only. The previous kitchen will remain for hiring to those with events as this will add value to the business arm of RVTC.

The former trainees have commenced with work as of 24 April 2023.


NTA BOARD VISIT RVTC

The sought after VTC was blessed by the visit of the NTA Board on 18 April 2023. Two members of the Board were joined by the Acting GM for Transformation, the company secretary and the Manager for Capital Projects. The Acting GM for Transformation Mr. Amon Haufiku introduced the Board and outlined the purpose of the visit.

The Board Chairperson Mr. Jerome Mutumba in his address stated the willingness to work with the staff for the interest of the organization. “We are on the ground to hear your concerns and change our organization for the country’s benefits” added Mutumba. Questions were asked by various staff members to the board and the team promised changes on the status quo. The Board Chair set the record straight by willingness to make TVET a choice not an option.

After a great engagement, RVTC staff members were happy with the Board’s responses to various concerns.
