Rundu Vocational Training Centre has begun the construction of the self-catering kitchen at the Centre’s premise. A project budgeted for a huge amount has employed 17 former graduates in the trade of Electrical General, Plumbing, Welding, Joinery & Bricklaying. The Bricklayers have started with the ground work as of 24 April 2023. The ground breaking was officiated by RVTC Centre Manager and Head of Trainee Support.
During the ground breaking, the Head of Trainee Support Bruce Gwala said the project have been delayed to kick off due to other situations. “We have started with this project today and it’s expected to end the second week of June 2023” added Gwala.
As a national hub, RVTC receives applicants for training from all the 14 regions of the country, thus the need for hostel expansion is vital. RVTC hostel currently accommodates 132 trainees. During the COVID19 pandemic, this number reduced due to health protocols inline of fighting the pandemic.
Self-catering kitchen will serve the Centre some money as they currently spend more than N$300 000.00 on meals only. The previous kitchen will remain for hiring to those with events as this will add value to the business arm of RVTC.
The former trainees have commenced with work as of 24 April 2023.
